Zara, Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind Trainee

BIG NEWS! It is with a mixture of grief and pride that we would like to announce that our beloved Zara will be graduating from her puppy practicum at Sogge & Associates Practice in Psychology to Big Dog School at the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind training facility in Manotick, Ontario on March 24, 2016. We will post updates on her progress in training here! Thank you for your patience and your support for Zara’s service.

As of October 28, 2014 we welcomed “Zara”, a 17 week old black Labrador Retriever puppy to the team at Sogge & Associates Practice in Psychology.  Zara was with us for 18 months as part of the rigourous training program administered by the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind head office in Manotick, Ontario.  Zara’s job will be to be around the office and behave with appropriate guide dog decorum.

If you have concerns about allergies, we wanted you to know of Zara’s presence in the building.  No client is required to have contact with Zara. You may email our office at info@drsogge.com if you have questions or if you would like to request that Zara not be present in either the waiting room or consultation room during your visit.

Following her placement with S&A, if she passes the appropriate tests, Zara will move on to further guide dog training and eventually enabling a blind adult to live and move through their lives with more freedom and autonomy.  Dogs not selected for guide dog training may also go on to being effective trained support animals or work in therapeutic contexts.
